Milling

Milling is a machining process that uses a rotating cutting tool to remove material from a workpiece. It is commonly used in manufacturing to create parts with precise shapes, sizes, and surface finishes. The process is typically performed using a milling machine, which can move the workpiece or the cutting tool in multiple directions.

In forestry, milling is used to remove bark from logs and smooth out the surface of the log.

What can milling be useful for?

 - Lumber Production: Milling trees is one of the easiest ways to produce lumber for projects. Beams, planks and boards can be made for construction, furniture and cabinetry.

 - Portable Sawmill: a mobile mill allows for on-site log processing which can help reduce transportation costs or create lumber for the customer.

 - Slab and Live Edge Wood production: Milling logs can produce large slabs with natural edges perfect for creating tables, worktops and decorative pieces.

 - Preservation: If you have a fallen tree that needs removing, it could be beneficial to use milling as a way to recycle the tree for a project, furniture etc.

 - Mulch: While milling, mulch is created from the process as the waste product. Mulch can be repurposed.
